Amid heat wave, Govt likely to announce early summer vacations | KNO

Srinagar, Jun 11 (KNO): Health and education minister, Sakina Itoo Wednesday said that the government was monitoring prevailing weather conditions and will take the call of early summer break for schools in accordance with the situation. Speaking to reporters here, Itoo as per news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) said, “The School Education Department is monitoring the weather situation. If we found that there is a need for an early summer break, we will take the call accordingly.” “It has only been two days of the heat wave. If the heat wave continues, then we will take a call accordingly,” she said. About tourism, Itoo said, “Tourism in Kashmir is very famous and we want more and more tourists to come here and enjoy nature.” In the meantime, the minister said that the committee has completed the reservation report that will be submitted in cabinet wherein it will be discussed. Earlier, the School Education Department (SED) had issued Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for government and private schools to be followed during summer hours amidst prevailing heat wave and afternoon stormy winds. Director of School Education Kashmir (DSEK) in a circular had said, “In light of the prevailing heat wave conditions and the increasing frequency of afternoon stormy winds across Kashmir division, it has become imperative to implement effective safety protocols to safeguard the health and well-being of students and staff.” DSEK said that the well-being of students is paramount, and proactive measures are essential to mitigate the risks associated with extreme weather conditions.
